Did you know that you can change how your subtitles appear on Netflix? If you’re learning a new language by watching TV shows, subtitles can be very helpful. Make sure to format your subtitles in a way that is most pleasing to the eye, easy to read, and doesn’t take away from the show.
My subtitles have a bright pink background with white text. I mostly did this for fun, but also because it makes them easy to see on any background. Let’s go through the steps to help you format your subtitles in the way that is best for you.
On a web browser:
Step 1: Go to Account
Step 2: Open the dropdown menu of the profile you want to configure in Profile & Parental Controls, click Change in Subtitle Appearance.
Step 3: Change the appearance of the subtitles to what makes it easiest for your eyes to read quickly and click SAVE.
That’s it! Pretty simple to do, but it can save you a lot of headaches when learning languages with Netflix if your vision is not great or you are a slow reader.
On a smart TV:
Step 1: Click on a show to play. Within the show, hit the down arrow to find the settings (gear) icon below the playback line. Click this icon.
Step 2: Change the style and size of your subtitles. Click down again.
That’s it! This one was even more simple, but doesn’t give you as many options for formatting as you get in a web browser.
